Heat Storage in a Two Story Rock Cavern. Preliminary Study
The possibilities to construct large heat stores in rock caverns are investigated. The proposed technology makes use of an increased contact between the rock and the heat carrier by connecting two caverns vertically through a number of boreholes. The study indicates that the concept should be feasible although it will differ from conventional caverns in some ways. A economic appraisal of the system indicates it to be some 25 percent cheaper than a conventional rock cavern heat store. (ERA citation 10:023879)
