Intergranular Attack and Stress Corrosion Cracking of Alloy 600 in High-Temperature Caustic Solutions Containing Contaminants
Concentrated caustic is a primary cause of stress corrosion cracking and intergranular attack of Alloy 600 tubing in PWRs. However, temperature, electrochemical potential, stress, and metallurgical state all play a role. This study provides the quantitative evidence needed to develop models of crack growth and to devise effective countermeasures. (ERA citation 10:037079)
