Structure-Foundation Interactions under Dynamic Loads
Structure-foundation interactions as characterized by the dynamic foundation stiffnesses are studied for embedded foundations and single piles under the framework of the general substructure method. For cylindrical foundations, rigid or flexible, embedded in a viscoelastic halfspace, the hybrid modelling technique has been applied. Foundations of different embedment ratios are considered. For single piles, a semi-analytical continuum method is adopted which utilized solutions for a dynamic point load buried in a viscoelastic halfspace. The soil modulus is defined as the inverse of an averaged displacement caused by load uniformly distributed over the cylindrical pile surface. The procedure gives better dynamic solutions over a broader frequency range than methods proposed previously. It may also be regarded as a simplified boundary integral formulation and therefore provides a basis for further generalization.
