The PA-647 dam is one of the seven flood control structures in the Wheeling Creek watershed. The dam consists of an earth embankment approximately 500 feet long with a maximum height of 95 feet from the downstream toe and a crest width of 15 feet. The flood discharge facilities for the dam consist of a drop inlet type primary spillway located near the left abutment (looking downstream) and an emergency spillway on the right abutment. Based on the evaluation of the conditions as they existed on the dates of inspection and as revealed by visual observations, the condition of PA-647 dam is considered to be good. The spillway capacity is classified to be adequate according to the recommended criteria.
