Davenport Hospital Study of Davenport Osteopathic Hospital; Mercy Hospital; St. Luke's Hospital
The results of a study conducted to evaluate the Davenport Osteopathic Hospital, Mercy Hospital, and St. Luke's Hospital in Iowa are presented. The study was conducted for the Illowa Health Planning Council. Renovation and expansion in these hospitals were examined in terms of their impact on the provision of hospital services in Illinois and Iowa. The study includes an analysis of the medical service area; an analysis by service of data on utilization, discharges, and average length of stay; an analysis of financial viability; an analysis of physical plants; an analysis of interviews with hospital medical staffs, department heads, board members, and administrators; a compilation of applicable hospital service standards; an analysis of governing structures of the hospitals; and recommendations. These recommendations pertain to the consolidation of St. Luke Hospital and Mercy Hospital, the formation of a new corporation for providing secondary level hospital services, and the maintenance of Davenport Osteopathic Hospital's identity as an acute care hospital. Appended information is provided on hospital services and an analysis of that information is included.
