North Base Rehabilitation Study, Edwards Air Force Base, California
The North Base at Edwards AFB, CA consists of a mixture of facilities differing in their year of construction, functional use and physical condition. Many of these facilities were built in the 1940's when the base was initially constructed and have exceeded their 25-year life expectancy. A portion of the facilities are of a newer vintage, built in the 1960's, and are in relatively good condition. The purpose of this study is to access the capabilities of the individual facilities and the associated elements of the infrastructure required to support future mission requirements and to develop the associated costs of those improvements. The projects have been initially grouped into eight separate categories for the purpose of developing construction packages which are exclusive to themselves in order to minimize construction conflicts and providing a complete functional facility. The categories used are: airfield pavements; roads and parking; utilities (water and sewer); utilities (electrical and communications); upgrade buildings (hangars/existing); upgrade buildings (support facilities/existing); buildings (support facilities/new); and physical security.
