Effect of Aggregates on Pavement Performance
In Texas, rigid (or portland cement concrete) pavements and the flexible (or asphaltic concrete) pavements are most often constructed using crushed limestone and/or siliceous river gravel as the course aggregate. Project 1244, sponsored by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), evaluated the performance of rigid pavements and flexible pavements made with siliceous river gravel and with crushed limestone as coarse aggregates, in order to develop specifications that obtain equal and adequate performance from the different aggregates.
