In Situ Tests of Bearing Capacity of Roof and Floor in Selected Bituminous Coal Mines. A Progress Report: Longwall Mining
A practical method was developed and field tested which provides an estimate of the bearing capacity of mine roof and floor. The relationship between penetration of the strata and imposed loads is determined by in situ tests. Information of this type is needed to determine the maximum allowable pressure that may be applied by self-advancing supports on roof and floor of a longwall face without causing a punching type of failure.
