National Engineering Handbook, Part 628 Dams. Chapter 51. Earth Spillway Erosion Model
The earth spillway erosion model within the 1995 NRCS Water Resources Site Analysis Program combines basic physical principles with data gathered from performance of actual field spillways to predict the extent of erosion expected from a given hydrograph through the spillway. To determine the potential for breach, the model iteratively analyzes various headcut formation and advance scenarios to determine the one representing the greatest risk of spillway breach. The intended use of the model is to evaluate the potential for the flow to breach the spillway.
