Methods for Reducing Friction between Concrete Slabs and Cement-Treated Subbases
The objective of the research was to evaluate specific methods of reducing friction between concrete slabs and different surface textures of cement-treated subbase. Three friction reducing treatments: sand, sand covered with 4 mil polyethylene, and a double layer of 4 mil polyethylene, were evaluated on smooth, medium, and rough surface textures of bituminous coated cement-treated subbase (CTS). Sand layer thicknesses were 1/16 and 1/4-in. Bituminous coated and uncoated CTS without a friction reducer was also evaluated. In addition, four slabs of various sizes and weights were evaluated on bituminous coated medium texture CTS. (Author)
