A relatively big share of the vehicular traffic on the streets in central areas of cities and towns are searching for parking space. By concentrating the parking supply in parking garages and install a variable parking guidance system to guide the public to available parking spaces the traffic load on the streets may be reduced. The report describes parking guidance systems which have been installed or are planned in West-Germany and Great Britain. It also proposes solutions for a parking guidance system for the central areas of Oslo based on the principles and experiences from these countries.
