The rapidly expanding technical facilities and the complexity of modern instrumentation used in hospitals today have led to the introduction of many new items of intricate, sophisticated, and costly equipment. Today, hospitals recognize the need for a systematic and effective control over the selection, preventive maintenance, safety, and performance of all medical equipment. Thus, equipment planning for hospitals is currently becoming more highly specialized. To assist planners in determining hospital equipment needs as a part of a systems approach to overall hospital planning, the Office of Equipment Consultation has prepared this listing of selected references. All references listed in the seven previous issuances (from May 1969-May 1972) have been consolidated into this one edition.
