Residual Stress Measurements in Structural Steels
The objective of this work was to develop a nondestructive system for in-situ measurement of residual stresses in steel highway structures. Based on a literature survey, 26 candidate methods were evaluated. The Barkhausen noise analysis method was selected for indicating surface stresses and the ultrasonic shear wave birefringence method was selected for indicating bulk stresses.
