Cultural Resources Investigations in the Vicinity of Fort Jackson, Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana: The Proposed Homeplace and Tropical Bend Borrow Areas
This study discusses cultural resources investigations relating to two proposed construction areas, the Homeplace and Tropical Bend borrow pits, located north of Empire, Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. This work is a part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, New Orleans to Venice Hurricane Protection Project. Records reviews and historical investigations were conducted prior to an intensive archaeological survey being initiated in both locales. The survey did not locate any significant cultural resources within either area. Only one occupational locale, a Euro-American site of too recent an age to be assigned a site designated by the Louisiana Division of Archaeology, was found within the proposed Homeplace borrow pit.
