Deformation Kinetics of Fracture of Asphalt Concrete
For the description of the fracture behavior of visco-elastic materials such as asphalt concretes, it was recently proposed to follow the partly phenomenological method of W. G. Knauss. In this publication we tried to combine two phenomenological approaches to deformation kinetics and to fracture mechanics. The result shows that deformation kinetics is not able to describe physical reality in all circumstances. It therefore was necessary to follow directly the deformation kinetics basis equation of Knauss. This equation is a special case of the general equations of the theory of van der Put and this more general approach is followed here to determine the activation parameters of the fracture processes.
