High Strength Concrete Phase 3. SP4: Material Properties Report 4.1. Properties of Concrete with Solite and Lytag LWA
A review of lightweight aggregates world wide has been prepared and revealed that there are numerous types which are relevant for the production of high strength lightweight concrete structures. The present investigation includes test of two types of aggregates which are believed to represent two extremes as to their characteristics and their impact on the concrete properties; the Lytag aggregates (made of fly ash) have high water absorption and spherical shape. The Solite aggregate (made of shale) have rather low water absorption and sharp angular shape. Results from previous investigations on Liapor and Leca are included.
