The purpose of this Demonstration Program is to perform an in-service evaluation of a lightweight aggregate, called Solite, for use as structural backfill material. This material has a unit weight of 60 pounds per cubic foot, which is about half the unit weight of normal structual backfill as used by the Department. The Solite was placed on a construction project in the City of Philadelphia during November and December of 1993. This report details the installation and testing procedures conducted during the construction process.
