The publication contains a number of reports arising from the project 'Lateral stability of timber constructions' which was partly funded by the Department of the Environment over the period August 1985 - December 1987. Only reports submitted to outside bodies are included. These are abbreviated from a number of internal project reports which are mentioned in the references and can be supplied for specialist study if requested. The following items are enclosed in the order of their original preparation: (1) Possible code approaches to lateral buckling in beams; (2) Lateral buckling theory for rectangular section deep beam-columns; (3) Draft clause for codes for beams with initial imperfections; (4) Design formulae for BS 5268 for beams and beam-columns subject to lateral buckling; and (5) Design examples for members subject to lateral buckling.
