This course is designed to provide an introduction to basic construction principles and the special characteristics of wood and ordinary construction as they concern firefighter safety. The course meets selected objectives of NPQS standards No. 1001, level III; No. 1021, level I-III; and No. 1031. Topics include (1) identification of operational safety concerns, (2) analysis of building design, materials and construction, and (3) recognizing common causes and indicators of structural failure.
