Joint Management Plan for Canyon de Chelly National Monument, Chinle, Arizona
The management of--and planning for--Canyon de Chelly National Monument requires cooperative planning by three main governmental entities: the National Park Service; the Navajo Nation--on both local and Tribal levels; and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The report gives the management plan that was developed jointly by these three managing entities. Public meetings were held, first, to inform the public--especially local residents--about the plan, and to ask for help in defining issues; and, secondly, for public comment on a draft of the plan. This joint management plan will guide management of the lands within Canyon de Chelly National Monument for the next 10 to 15 years. It can be revised at any time to respond to changing conditions, and the public will be included in the revision process.
