Ultimate Torsional Strength of Plain, Prestressed and Reinformed Concrete Members of Rectangular-Cross Section
Research was undertaken to investigate the ultimate strength of rectangular concrete members under pure torsion. The area of investigation covered plain, prestressed, reinforced and prestressed beams with mild steel reinforced and prestressed beams with mild steel reinforcement. A brief review of pertinent theorectical and experimental results was made to assess the present state of knowledge. 91 beams (6 plain, 62 reinforced and 33 prestressed concrete beams) were tested to investigate the effects of various parameters upon the ultimate torque. The experimental results, as well as the torque-twist curves, were presented in the text. These data were supplemented, wherever possible, by additional test data reported by other investigators.
