Field testing is conducted on all State highways on a regular basis. Each mile of pavement is evaluated for Ride Index, Friction Index, Structural Condition, Cracking (transverse, longitudinal, map, alligator) and Rut Depth at the same location near each milepost. Following the field testing, detailed data sheets are then made available to each station foreman as well as each district maintenance engineer. The foreman is expected to use these data sheets as a guide, along with visual inspections, to establish priorities for asphalt pavement maintenance. District maintenance engineers, in turn, will use the data sheets to help establish maintenance needs prior to preparing budget requests.
