Supercritical Flow at Open-Channel Junctions; Hydraulic Model Investigation
This report describes hydraulic model tests made to generalize and verify the hydraulic design of confluence structures. Model investigation of certain confluences showed unsatisfactory flow conditions involving considerable turbulence in the confluence structure and transverse waves in the channel downstream. Major changes in particular designs were effected. Various schemes were introduced in each case. Lengthening the transition downstream from divider wall and minimal angle of intersection of the two channels were found to be the most efficient solutions. (Author)
