Vibrations from Underground Blasting
Vibration data from underground blasts were analyzed to establish a comparison of elastic wave propagation characteristics in different rock types. A summary of the work is presented including (1) a review of previous Bureau studies of quarry blasting, (2) physical and geological features of the underground sites, (3) analysis of particle acceleration and velocity data, and (4) discussion of results. Primary applications of the report are predicting vibration levels from underground blasts, and reducing maximum amplitudes without impairing the efficiency of a blast round.
