This report summarizes a number of methods of calculating the settlement of isolated foundations, both shallow and deep. Undrained, consolidation and creep settlements due to static loads are considered and a number of relevant solutions from elastic theory are given. The determination of the appropriate soil parameters is discussed and a very brief review is made of some published comparisons between observed and calculated settlements.
