Structural Thermal Break Systems for Buildings: Development and Properties of Concrete Systems: Final Report
This report presents results from the second phase of a three phase program to investigate lightweight concrete systems for potential use as structural thermal breaks in buildings. The second phase of work, presented in this report, is the laboratory development and measurement of properties of the lightweight portland cement concrete. Work included materials selection and concrete mix development. Thermal and physical properties of the candidate concretes were measured on small-scale specimens. Data on concrete thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, specific heat, compressive strength, flexural strength, shear strength, splitting tensile strength, and modulus of elasticity are presented. Casting and surface finishing techniques for the most desirable mix are also described. 13 refs., 17 figs., 16 tabs. (ERA citation 14:007997)
