Modelling Laterally Loaded Piles in Calcareous Sand
A program of 17 centrifuge model tests was performed on laterally loaded piles in calcareous sand. The tests comprised monotonic and cyclic lateral loading of single piles and groups of two and three piles in reconstituted, uncemented calcareous soils from the Bass Strait, Australia. The piles modeled prototype piles with diameters in the range of 0.3 to 2.1 meters. Each test had one instrumented pile with which bending moment distributions were measured. The paper describes modeling techniques, class of results obtained, validation of model scaling factors, and application of the work.
