Simulation of Undersurface Roughness Coefficient of River Ice Cover (St. Lawrence River from Iroquois Dam to Morrisburg)
A quantitative description of the undersurface roughness of a river's ice cover is one of the most important elements in the hydraulic analysis of wintertime flows. In this report, a method is developed which is capable of simulating the time dependent variation of the roughness coefficient of river ice covers formed by slush accumulation. The method is then used to determine the ice cover roughness coefficient for a reach of the St. Lawrence River between the Iroquois Dam and the town of Morrisburg.
