National Dam Inspection Program. Trout Lake Dam (NDI ID Number PA-00769, DER ID Number 45-43), Delaware River Basin, Appenzell Creek, Monroe County, Pennsylvania. Phase I Inspection Reports
Trout Lake Dam is an earth embankment dam with a concrete overflow spillway. The dam is approximately 390 feet long and has a maximum height of about 24 feet. The dam is located along Pennsylvania Route 715, about 1 mile south of Reeders, Pennsylvania. The spillway is capable of discharging 25 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) without overtoppong of the earth embankment. Failure of the dam would significantly increase the hazard to loss of life downstream of the dam. Therefore, the spillway is classified as 'seriously inadequate' and the dam is classified as 'unsafe(non-emergency)'. The spillway capacity should be increased. Further detailed hydrologic and hydraulic studies should be performed prior to the design of additional spillway capacity. Based on visual observations and review of the information obtained from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources, Dam Safety Section, Trout Lake Dam is considered to be in poor condition.
