Field Evaluation of Selected Highway Construction Temporary Sediment Controls for Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans
A highway construction project in Houston was monitored from pre-construction through the first phase of construction to determine the effectiveness of temporary sediment controls for pollutant control. Nearby receiving waters were also monitored to determine the type and quantity of pollutants that left the site. Nutrients, metals, and general water quality parameters were monitored throughout the investigation period. The receiving-water bodies showed little or no changes in water quality parameters. There was no consistent, quantifiable effect of the use of the temporary sediment controls as pollutant controls as installed at the study site.
