Behaviour of Thin-Walled Box Sections with Lateral Restraint
This report presents the results from an experimental study performed to investigate the behavior of thin-walled box sections with internal lateral restraint. Two series of tests were conducted examining the influence of the width to thickness ratio and the length to thickness ratio on the buckling strength of the tube. The material properties, residual stresses and geometric imperfections were carefully measured. Three different axial compression tests were conducted which included: steel loaded only; steel loaded with internal concrete restraint; steel and concrete loaded together. In each test, load, axial shortening and lateral deformation was recorded.
