Reef shell is abundant in some areas where other aggregates are in short supply. Although reef shell does not meet the usual requirements for concrete aggregate, it produces concrete with satisfactory workability and with flexural strength greater than that of gravel concrete at equal water/cement ratios when made with beach sand which also does not meet specifications.
