Dynamic Behavior of Embedded Foundations
Using a circular three-dimensional finite element formulation with consistent lateral boundaries, the results of a series of parametric studies are presented. Approximate rules are derived for the translation and rotational components of motion at the base of a rigid massless embedded foundation from the specified seismic input at the free surface of the soil in the free field, and the dynamic stiffness matrix of an embedded rigid and massless foundation from the results for an already available surface foundation. These simplified rules can be used for preliminary analyses in evaluating the interaction effect and influence of various parameters.
