Construction Zone, Detour and Temporary Connection Accidents
Construction zones, detours and temporary connections require more caution on the part of the motorist than normal highway travel. Special care in the design of construction zones, the use of warning devices, and control of contractor's operations is necessary to minimize the impact of the construction operation on safety. Two studies were made of construction zones in California to compare the accident rate during construction with the rate for the same portion of highway prior to construction. (Author)
