Hydraulic Model Study Results for Black Rock Dam
As a client service to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Bureau of Reclamation is designing the spillway rehabilitation and dam overtopping protection required for Black Rock Dam during the PMF (Probable Maximum Flood). The hydraulic model study investigated the consequences of passing large flows through the existing spillway and dam overtopping. Two separate models were used to investigate the right abutment treatment and the required modifications to the existing spillways and downstream channel area. The right abutment model was used to locate a training wall, determine the wall height, and determine the extent of roller-compacted concrete protection needed. The existing spillway model was used to determine spillway wall heights, downstream flow deflector geometry, and the extent of the downstream apron.
