To Transfer National Forest Lands to the Mescalero Apache Tribe, New Mexico
The Apache Tribe of the Mescalero Reservation has requested that the Sierra Blanca Winter Sports Area including 2,240 acres of the Lincoln National Forest, Lincoln County, New Mexico, be exhanged to the Tribe for lands of equal value desired by the Forest Service. The Tribe has requested the exchange on the premise that, were they to obtain title to the land, it would facilitate their obtaining financing for further expansion and development of the Sierra Blanca Ski Area, now being operated by the Tribe under special-use permit from the Forest Service. The impact of this action is reported.
