Strengthening of Fractured Rock Pillars by the Use of Small Radial Reinforcement Pressures
Results of a study are presented of the effect of low radial reinforcement pressure on the post-failure characteristics of two types of granite, a sandstone and marble. The low radial reinforcement pressure is applied to the rock surface by a gooch rubber sleeve. The gooch rubber sleeve provides a radial pressure of less than one psi pressure to the rock surface. This method of support gives an average strength increase of approximately 8 percent to the fracture rock sample. (Author)
