It is proposed to construct a dry flood control dam with spillway structures, a diversion ditch, and an open channel for protection of the city of Las Cruces and adjacent agricultural lands of Dona Ana County, New Mexico. Removal of 83,000 cubic yards of protection stone from an existing small quarry cannot be economically avoided. Minor losses of marginal wildlife habitat will occur if the area is not fenced and allowed to revegetate.
