The Bureau of Reclamation prepared volume 2 of the Canal Systems Automation Manual as a technical reference to provide specific tools for the design of an automated canal or to retrofit automation to an existing canal. Chapter 5 deals with canal design and automation requirements. Chapter 6 provides a brief review of canal hydraulics and a discussion of numerical solutions to the hydraulic equations used in canal applications. Chapter 7 discusses control theory and application. Chapter 8 examines communication systems and their application to data telemetry and control. Chapter 9 covers various types of measurement instrumentation. Chapter 10 discusses the mechanical features of an automated canal system. Chapter 11 deals with the electronic components used to control a canal, either onsite or remotely.
