K-96 Near I-235 and Meridian Avenue Interchange in Sedgwick County, Kansas
Two projects are proposed as a part of the state freeway system, located near the northwest corner of the city limits of Wichita. They would be the completing link on K-96 from near Hutchinson to Wichita. The improvement is planned as a freeway. An interchange at I-235 requires separation structures, and twin bridges would be required across the Arkansas River. If these projects were constructed, traffic on K-96 would increase, to cause an increase in the noise level and exhaust emissions in the residential area southeast of the present K-96 - I-235 interchange. Borrow areas would be required to obtain the necessary material for construction of the roadway embankment.
