Assessment of Pavement Condition of General Aviation Airports in Kansas
The major objective of this research project was to asess the condition of the General Aviation (GA) airports in Kansas. This study was also intended to form the basis for a pavement management system (PMS) for these airports. A sample of fifteen (15) airports, out of 150 GA airports, was selected for this study. Micro PAVER, a microcomputer-based PMS system developed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, was selected as the platform for the intended PMS. An inventory database was developed for the fifteen GA airports selected. Information about the construction and maintenance history was entered into the Micro PAVER database. Pavement conditions surveys were conducted in the summer of 1995 to assess the pavement condition in terms of composite index called Pavement Condition Index (PCI) following the methodology outlined by the US Army Corps of Engineers and adopted by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
