Pavement Behaviour as Determined from Heavy Vehicle Simulator Testing
The paper discusses some of the advances in the understanding of the behavior of pavement materials made through testing with the Heavy Vehicle Simulator of more than thirty full-scale test sections constructed throughout South Africa. Emphasis is placed on the behavior of granular, cemented and bituminous materials, and particularly on the deterioration of these materials with time and with load repetitions. The work has led to improved rehabilitation methods and considerable economic savings.
