Navajo Safety of Dams Project: Photographic Documentation of Ganado Dam, Apache County, Arizona
Located on the Navajo Reservation, the historic Ganado Dam was evaluated and determined eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places as part of a safety of dams project. John L. Hubbell was instrumental in the construction of the dam in the early 1900s. Constructed by the Indian Irrigation Services, the earthen dam influenced the settlement patterns and had economic impact on the area thereby contributing to significant patterns in the region's history. The report provides a brief description and historical narrative as well as contemporary photographic documentation of the major features of Ganado Dam. The report partially satisfies the requirements of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
