Archaeological Survey of the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge
An archaeological survey was conducted by New World Research at the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge in Jackson County, Mississippi, in September, 1978. During the project specific areas were examined in the Ocean Springs and Fountainebleau Units. Projected impact includes a variety of construction plans which differ in the degree of land alteration. The archaeological investigation consisted of intensive survey, surface survey, and simple survey. No sites were encountered in any of the impact areas. The only artifacts recovered were shell, secondarily deposited for road maintenance, and refuse.
