Preformed Silicon Bridge Deck Joint Sealing System
The purpose of this field evaluation was to monitor the installation procedures and field performance of a preformed silicon bridge deck joint sealing system, known by the trade name 'Silicoflex' (trademark). This system consists of a preformed silicon strip seal, which is locked in place by a non-sag, high modulus silicon adhesive. The preformed seal is bonded directly to concrete, elastomeric concrete or steel joint headers. One of the projects in this report utilized an elastomeric header as an interface, known by the trade name 'Flexcon A/C' (trademark). Silicoflex is being considered as an alternative, temporary repair maintenance option for existing deteriorated bridge deck expansion dams systems in Pennsylvania. Three project sites were constructed in Pennsylvania for the purpose of this evaluation. One project was monitored at regular intervals over a two-year period. The other two projects were monitored over a one-year time frame. The visual monitoring noted the performance of each expansion dam system relative to debonding, deterioration, tearing, watertightness and surface damage.
