Preliminary test results of unfiltered river water as a pile coolant
As outlined in the program document for the testing of unfiltered Columbia River water, a series of flow laboratory tests was begun in the 105-D Flow Laboratory on July 6, 1953. These tests were undertaken to obtain preliminary information concerning corrosion and filming properties of unfiltered river water, and to determine a satisfactory combination of additive concentrations for use in the in-pile tests which are now in progress. The primary variables studies to date are pH, dichromate concentration, and purge material addition. The purpose of this report is to present testing results obtained to date. 2 figs., 3 tabs.
