Voegen in Betonnen Vliegveldverhardingen (Joints in Cement Concrete Airport Pavements)
Problems with joints in cement concrete airport pavements can be avoided by the proper selection and construction of joint sealings, making the concrete pavement less susceptible for maintenance and repair, thus increasing the durability and hence the reliability of the in-service pavement. Until recently, there was no guide on joint design and construction considerations for both designers and practitioners. The Dutch airfield pavement administrators instigated a study to assess knowledge, craftsmanship and experience towards joint structures and joint sealants and enable easy assess to this information via an CROW publication. A sound evaluation of the viable options for joint design and construction will definitely lead to an improved and more reliable concrete pavement. This publication mainly addresses plain concrete pavements. Topics are design aspects, material application, maintenance and repair methods, joint types, sealants and joint profiles. Design considerations are presented and relevant material codes are given.
