Lightweight Concrete: Shear Performance. TechBrief
Concrete with a unit weight between that of traditional lightweight concrete and normal-weight concrete (NWC) is not covered in the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) Bridge Design Specifications. As part of an effort to address this and other perceived shortcomings in how the specification addresses lightweight concrete and how lightweight concrete is deployed in bridges, research was completed to assess the shear performance of these different density concretes.
