The Practicing Architect and Societal Needs
The purpose of the Conference was to uncover, explore and recommend researchable issues that may be productively addressed by the architectural profession. A Conference of 70 invited architects and related professionals utilized a workshop format to respond to talks by major speakers on land use, energy, social concerns, and changing institutions. The participants, of whom 50 percent were architects and 50 percent were non-architects, agreed that multidisciplinary cooperation is essential to answer today's problems in environmental design. The Conference outlined practical approaches that interdisciplinary teams might take to better meet societal needs. Proposals were also made for research to be done by, for, and about the architectural profession.
