Gila Gravity Main Canal. Rehabilitation and Betterment Gila Project, Arizona
The proposed action is the rehabilitation and betterment of approximately 14.7 miles of main conveyance channel supplying irrigation water to approximately 114,000 acres of irrigable land. Proposed work consists of constructing access roads to presently nonaccessible areas along banks of canal, improvement of canal bank road, and construction of drainage structures. Work will be performed in Yuma County, Arizona. Action will assure continued use of Gila Gravity Main Canal as a water conveyance facility and increase access to fishing and hunting and other recreation opportunities along the canal. Placing of spoil material might be considered an adverse environmental effect; however, some material will be placed where it will be beneficial as parking areas for recreationists. Construction of access roads will disturb the natural appearing landscape along the canal.
